Education is one of the basic factors which play a vital role in the development of a country. Education also combats unemployment, confirms sound foundation of social equity, awareness, tolerance, self-esteem and spread of political socialization and cultural vitality. Like many other developing countries, the situation of Pakistan’s education sector has not been very encouraging due to poverty, unemployment, over-population and slow pace of economic development in the country. Current education rate is 59.6 %, and the situation in the rural area is even worst particularly in girls’ education. Country immediately needs to invest more resources to improve the infrastructure of basic education, create awareness and mobilize the society at the grass root level, providing equal opportunities to boys and girls for basic education especially the deprived ones. Considering the critical situation in the education sector in Pakistan, HIN has put “Education” at the top of its priority list since 2003 with the following objective;“To play a viable role in equitable access to quality based formal and non-formal education (including focus on the goal of universal primary education) for all children especially the girls”. The organization has steadily and humbly been contributing towards the sector since then through a series of educational related interventions in different districts of KPK, Punjab and AJK. The interventions in education mostly focus on to increase educational awareness through effective mass communication and social mobilization campaigns; Community participation in educational activities in the result of reactivation and orientation of Parent Teacher Council (PTCs). It also includes improvement in learning environment as well as access of children to quality education through establishment of temporary learning spaces (Tents/learning facilities) in or near to the Govt. Schools. Improvement in teaching and learning environment is carried out through provision of missing facilities in class rooms/schools; essential educational and recreational material to the children and teachers. Capacity building of teachers in general pedagogy and subject teaching skills is also the part of HIN- Education Program. HIN’s educational achievements and outputs in KP, Punjab and AJ&K are spanned over a period of 13 years of endeavors. Such high impact interventions in education have been achieved in partnerships with various UN-Agencies, INGOs and Govt. Institutions.
